Bridgford, in this city on last Friday morning, June 15th, 1906, at 3 o'clock, at the advanced age of 95 years, 6 months and 12 days. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. G. O. Shaffer. Interment was in the Millersburg cemetery. Her death removes one of the eldest and earliest of the pioneers of this county. Nancy Wakeland was born in Milford township, Clearmont county, Ohio, December 3, 1810, and was married to Walter A. Bridgford September 17th, 1829, near Oxford, Ohio. To them were born ten children : Oliver A., of this city; George and Frances (twins) who died in infancy; William, who died at the age of eight years; Malenda H. Hunt of Argentine, Kansas; Mary E. Ashbaugh of Osage City, Kansas; Isaac T., who died in defense of his country in the Civil war at Mound city, Ill.; Nancy J. Maddox, deceased; Laura M. Betheuram, deceased. The family moved to Mercer county in October, 1843 and lived in this county ever since. June 8th, 1897, Walter A. Bridgford died at Millersburg, at the age of 87. Since that time Mother Bridgford has resided most of the time with her oldest son. She joined the M. E. church in Millersburg many years ago and has been a kind friend to everyone who was in need of help. Her two eldest daughters and son were at her bedside and ministered to her wants during her sickness, until death came to claim her and take her to her everlasting home. She leaves twenty grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, besides a host of friends to mourn her death. She was the eldest of the five living generations of the Bridgford family.
