MINTEER IS FOUND DEAD AT HIS HOME Heart Attack Proves Fatal to Duncan Supervisor; Spent Entire Life Locally; Funeral Thursday
William L. Minteer, 66 years old, life long resident of Mercer county and Duncan township supervisor for the past 13 years, died suddenly while doing the chores about his home north of Millersburg Tuesday evening, Feb. 7, 1933. Mr. Minteer had gone to the barn about 4 p. m., intending to return in about a half hour. When he failed to return Mrs. Minteer summoned neighbors and his body was found by Will Jones at about 4:50 p. .m, lying at the edge of a corn field about 15 rods east of his home.
Suffers Previous Attacks About six weeks ago he suffered an attack of influenza which weakened his heart and from which he never fully recovered. He was stricken with less serious heart attacks twice before. Born April 9, 1866 near Joy, he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Minteer and was reared and educated in Duncan township. For 23 years he was a teacher in schools in various parts of the county before taking up farming which followed until his death.
Long Board Member He was elected a member of the board of supervisors in April, 1920 and served as chairman of the board for one year beginning in April, 1926. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the committee on general claims and a member of the finance committee. Since his term of office would have expired in April of this year, county officers said it was unlikely that a special election will be called, but that a temporary supervisor to serve during the March meeting will be selected by the township board.
Five Children In June, 1889, he was married to Miss Henrietta Beggs, daughter of Hugh Beggs of Duncan township. Five children were born to them, all of whom survive. They are: Mrs. Florence Ramsden, Aledo; Mrs. Daisy Swain, Muscatine, Ia.; Ernest Minteer, Aledo; Mrs. Letha Struble, arston and Lyle Minteer, Aledo. His frist wife died April 1, 1908 and Feb. 7 1914, he was married to Miss Ruth Burgess, the ceremony being performed in Aledo. She survives.
