Burgess was born in Mercer county, llinois, May 28, 1863, and died at Ossawattama, Kansas, October 5, 1899, ages 36 years, 4 months and 8 days. He was married to Lydia Houser, February 25, 1892, and to them two children were born, Bernice, aged 4, and another daughter who passed away at two weeks of age on January last. He moved to Kansas in 1893, having spent five years previously in that state. He contracted the la grippe last January and so affected his nervous system and nemtal condition that he had been cared for at the hospital at Ossawattama, Kansas, since June last. On last Thursday night the hand of death came to his relief. The remains were shipped to Aledo and funeral services wee held in the Millersburg M. E. church Monday afternoon, Rev. J. A. Alford officiating, using as a scripture test, John 6:68. The funeral was largely attended by sympathizing friends. The relatives present form outside of Millersburg were: William Harness and mother, Mrs. Mary Harness of Reynolds, Harvey Harness and family of the same place, Arthur Good of Andalusia and his sister, Miss Grace Good, of Rock Island. The deceased was well know in the vicinity and many are the friends who sympathize with the relatives. The remains were laid to rest in our beautiful cemetery northwest of the village.
